The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies co-organizer of GREENAGERS 2026: environmental education and active participation among younger generations
The new edition of GreenAgers took place on March 31 and April 1, 2026, at the middle schools of Casciana Terme and Lari. This environmental sustainability project sees the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies among its co-organizers, as part of its Third Mission activities.
Organized in collaboration with Progetto TER.R.AE and with the involvement of the Public Engagement Unit and Institutional Communication Office, the initiative confirmed its main goal: bringing younger generations closer to the topics of climate change, recycling, and active citizenship through an engaging and multidisciplinary educational experience.
Students from local lower secondary schools were the protagonists of the project, participating in a program combining theoretical lessons and practical activities. During the two days, researchers from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Climate Sciences (CISC) and the Crop Science Institute guided the participants through lessons and workshops. At the Crop Science Institute Professor Antonio Ferrante and his team presented the main concepts related to environmental sustainability and resource management, using clear and accessible language.
Alongside theoretical insights, the activities included hands-on experiences designed to foster awareness and a sense of responsibility: from creatively reusing materials and reflecting on sustainable daily behaviors to direct actions in the local territory.
As part of the project, students were also invited to take part in a creative contest titled “Transform an object destined for the trash into something new and useful,” accompanied by a written report presenting a “green idea.” This offered participants the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice and to creatively develop new visions of sustainability. The contest winners will be featured during the European Researchers’ Night, scheduled for September 25, 2026.
GreenAgers thus confirms itself as an initiative investing in younger generations, guiding them toward the development of an active and conscious environmental awareness.
