Next-Generation RNAi Tools for Plants Based on Highly Specific Small RNAs - with Alberto Carbonell
On 21 July 2026, the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna will host a seminar by Dr. Alberto Carbonell, plant biotechnology scientist and permanent researcher at the IBMCP (CSIC) in Valencia, Spain, where he leads the Plant Small RNA Biotechnology group.
The seminar, entitled Next-Generation RNAi Tools for Plants Based on Highly Specific Small RNAs, will present recent advances in the development of RNA interference (RNAi) technologies based on engineered small RNAs for precision gene regulation in plants. These innovative approaches offer new opportunities to improve crop resilience and sustainability while expanding the toolbox available for plant functional genomics and biotechnology.
Drawing on his internationally recognised research, Dr. Carbonell will discuss the design and application of highly specific small RNA molecules and their potential to support the development of next-generation solutions for agriculture without genetic modification. The lecture will provide an overview of cutting-edge strategies at the intersection of molecular biology, biotechnology, and sustainable crop improvement.
The event will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Piazza Martiri della Libertà 33, Pisa, and is open to students, researchers, and all those interested in advances in plant science and biotechnology.
